What exactly is a Portfolio?
A portfolio, also known as an autobiography or Dear Birthmother Letter, is the initial contact between adoptive parents and birthparents. In most cases, a portfolio determines who a birthparent will choose for their child.
A portfolio provides information about your family, activities, hobbies, why adoption was a choice you made, photographs of family—friends—and pets, as well as other personal facts.
Every portfolio is unique depending on the openness of the adoption and information the adoptive parent wants to provide. We are here to help you craft a portfolio personalized to meet your needs. 1Why do I need a Portfolio? Most adoption agencies and attorneys require that adoptive parents provide a portfolio that will be presented to birthparents.
Portfolio’s are used in open and semi-open adoptions. They can be a great gift for birthparents and they can be kept as memorabilia of this important event! Confidentiality is a priority and we can help protect you by screening photographs and information in your portfolio.
Since a portfolio is used to introduce you to a birthparent (among other adoptive parent portfolios they will look at) it’s important to start-off with the best first impression; that’s why Creative Adoption Consultants is here for you! |
